Product feed per the OpenAI spec: how to get into the ChatGPT Shopping showcase from your already-synced catalog
AI Showcase is a structured product feed that GEO Engine generates from your synced catalog following the OpenAI specification and delivers to ChatGPT Shopping. Products in the feed can appear in ChatGPT shopping answers.
What is ChatGPT Shopping and why a feed is needed
ChatGPT Shopping is a product showcase inside ChatGPT answers: a user describes a need ("I need a humidifier under $100") and the model shows product cards with price, photo and link. To get products into this showcase, OpenAI accepts feeds under the open file-upload/products spec: JSONL or CSV, gzip-compressed, refreshed daily.
- The feed is a catalog snapshot: id, title, description, URL, price, currency, availability, image, brand, seller
- Delivery is SFTP push to OpenAI servers or pull via a public URL
- A feed is enough for discovery; Instant Checkout is a separate option after merchant approval
- The feed market is currently the US; OpenAI expands regions gradually
How GEO Engine builds the feed
The AI Showcase module runs on top of your already-synced catalog — nothing needs to be collected again. The generator reads CMS-agent products and maps each card to the required OpenAI schema: it validates URL, price, image and title, skips incomplete records with an explicit reason, maps stock levels to standard availability statuses (in_stock, out_of_stock, pre_order, backorder), applies sale_price from promotions and aggregates reviews into star_rating/review_count.
- Relative product and image URLs are automatically made absolute using the project domain
- additional_image_urls are collected from the product gallery without duplicating the main photo
- Products missing URL, price, image or title are skipped — the stats show the reason for each skip
- products.jsonl.gz keeps a stable filename — the spec requirement for daily snapshots
Delivery and updates
The feed refreshes automatically every day after catalog sync — OpenAI requires a snapshot at least once per day. The public tokenized URL (/api/v1/public/ai-feed/{token}/products.jsonl.gz) works for pull integrations and manual content inspection. For SFTP delivery into OpenAI infrastructure, merchant credentials are configured — they are stored encrypted and never exposed in APIs or logs. The connection is verified with a test before pushes are enabled.
Do I need to upload the catalog separately for ChatGPT Shopping?
No. The feed is generated from the catalog already synced via the CMS agent. Just enable the AI Showcase module in the catalog card — the daily snapshot is built automatically.
Does the feed guarantee products appear in ChatGPT answers?
No. The feed is a prerequisite for showcase indexing, but whether a product appears depends on query relevance, card quality and OpenAI merchant approval (chatgpt.com/merchants). We deliver correct data — we don't fake visibility.
Can I sell directly from ChatGPT?
Instant Checkout (Agentic Commerce Protocol) is a separate phase after the base feed. For discovery the feed is enough: products show with price and a link to your site.
